Elm Hill’s top priority is treating every author with respect and kindness, from the first meeting to the final publication of a manuscript to the payment of royalties and every other interaction. Operating with complete integrity is our commitment, and we know that this philosophy is integral in forming an impactful relationship with our authors.

Manuscripts are a life’s work, and each author is entrusting that Elm Hill will deliver what we promise — a professionally developed book with the potential to gain sales and distribution both nationally and internationally.

To hold Elm Hill accountable to its commitment of integrity, general managers Pete Nikolai and Jon Fitch will provide each Elm Hill author with their contact information. Account managers will also walk alongside each author to ensure that every manuscript is given the careful attention it deserves throughout each step of the publishing process. At Elm Hill, we take our responsibility as representatives of HarperCollins Christian Publishing very seriously, which is why we go the extra mile to ensure our authors are working with dedicated people who truly want to turn dreams into reality.

A revolution typically refers to a drastic action or a dramatic change. Our team could not think of a more appropriate way to describe the publishing opportunities offered through Elm Hill. HarperCollins Christian Publishing and Accurance want authors to experience many of the perks that come with being a published author — sales, marketing, promotion, and distribution assistance.

Elm Hill is the first imprint in the book publishing industry to change the outside-looking-in perspective experienced by self-published authors. The Elm Hill revolution offers the foot-in-the-door opportunities many authors have been waiting for.

At Elm Hill, authors will have access to self-publishing services offered through six different publishing packages, each building upon the previous tier. These packages are strategically structured for authors who are at varying points on their publishing journey. All Elm Hill packages include outstanding professional publishing services, and the higher level packages provide access to marketing, promotion, and distribution tools similar to those offered to authors on a more traditional publishing path.

While Elm Hill is a self-publishing imprint, its tiers of services are designed for a range of individuals, from those who are publishing for the first time to seasoned authors who are ready to leverage all the Elm Hill assets to make their next book a success.

Managed by Accurance

In the early days of the self-publishing industry, Accurance established themselves as one of the five pioneer firms that laid the path in the late nineties for the million-plus titles that have flowed into the self-publishing industry since then. Accurance established many of the firsts in the industry during the explosion of self-publishing from 1999 to 2005.

Accurance has been in the past, or is presently, the production backbone for half the world’s ten largest self-publishing author services firms, early on becoming the industry’s largest wholesale production service provider worldwide. Accurance established many of the firsts in self-publishing service, creating operations and flows adopted by their publisher clients that today are standards for the majority of the self-publishing industry.

Despite the contributions made, Accurance might also be the industry’s best kept secret as they have deliberately stayed largely “under the radar” in serving their clients who feared that the knowledge of them subcontracting most or all their work would be used against them by their competitors.

In growing their wholesale production services for the industry, Accurance has established itself by providing best-practices services, many of which match up extremely well with those of most in the traditional publishing industry worldwide. That, in combination with Accurance’s reputation for honesty, integrity, and straightforwardness towards all clients, is Accurance’s commitment in managing the editorial services for Elm Hill author clients with HarperCollins Christian Publishing in this revolutionary new category of publishing.

The Management

Pete started working for Thomas Nelson’s sales department as a telemarketer before stepping up to field and key account sales. In 2000, he launched and managed the Backlist Development department at Thomas Nelson which created many bestselling products based on previously published content. After Backlist Development, Pete became a Group Publisher and managed several product groups within Nelson from 2004–2005.

From 2005–2009, Pete was responsible for the continued development, improvement, and implementation of the publishing process for all of Thomas Nelson. In 2009, he created HCCP’s WestBow Press and helped lead the division that focuses on providing self-publishing services to aspiring authors.

Pete’s latest project, Elm Hill, is the first self-publishing option of its kind. With Elm Hill, Pete is set to establish a revolutionary system that will change the course of the publishing industry by leading self-publishing authors down many of the same paths that traditional authors take, bringing the former closer to their publishing dreams.

Life Before Accurance

Before establishing Accurance, Jon spent six years involved in developmental neurobiological research under a brilliant MacArthur Grant professor. Jon’s work overturned 90-year-old assumptions about the functional and physical organization of brain areas involved with memory. He was published in two neuro journals that were at the top in the world at that time (Brain Research and the Journal of Comparative Neurology) — post-doctoral level work done as an undergraduate.

Next, Jon founded FitchMeyer Direct Marketing Intelligence in what was, at that time, a very new hospital marketing field. Within a few years, FitchMeyer achieved Inc. 500 status, a listing of the 500 fastest-growing privately held businesses in the country. FitchMeyer developed cutting-edge programs with quantitatively provable return-on-investment, with breakthrough results so strong they attracted the flagship hospitals of the University of Chicago, LDS Healthcare, and many other heavy-hitter systems as clients. Jon was able to recruit a group of leaders so talented one investment banker had to be convinced that they were employees rather than outside consultants.

Accurance

Wherever Fitch goes, breaking new ground follows. He’s able to create things that no one else has been able to create, which is Accurance.

Accurance is the premier production services provider for the publishing community, serving half the world’s ten largest POD publishers as their production backbone, among other clients in both the self-publishing and traditional publishing worlds. Accurance has been named #1 in a client satisfaction survey involving 700 self-published authors in North America for two years in a row.

Family

Jon has been happily married for the past 17 years to the woman he crossed oceans for. Together, they have one son who is an artist and a basketball point guard — don’t get Jon started or you’ll never hear him stop talking about his son’s basketball or his art.

A Master’s Degree holder in Industrial Engineering, Dwight has held different positions and assumed control over various responsibilities in Accurance, such as developing business strategies, marketing and management, client service management, and production development.

In 2010, Dwight joined Accurance as a client service manager and shortly became heavily involved in marketing as he took charge of addressing clients’ and the company’s advertising needs from devising to managing ad campaigns, preparing marketing strategy, analyzing trends, keeping an eye on the competition, identifying new service markets, as well as developing and executing advertising programs and external marketing.

Other than his corporate responsibilities, Dwight is also a calculus, statistics, and advanced mathematics professor, a small business owner, and a publishing consultant.

A graduate of Computer Engineering, Manny Miranda has successfully channeled his expertise into developing and running various processes including data capture and encoding, project and program development, and production management.

As a project development head, Manny took on the task of ensuring that the programs created by the programmers incorporated the required capabilities required by the client and the project. Project development keeps directly involved in planning and development of the most efficient production flow processes. He is currently immersed in production management wherein one of his main responsibilities involves discovering and establishing solid workflows that will enable his division to run like a well-oiled machine on a daily basis.

Manny is married with two lovely daughters who are currently in grade school.

Bill Earle has almost 40 years of experience in project management with long -term tenures in four completely different industries. These include records management/document preservation and retrieval and data entry, advertising, ophthalmology, and publishing.

Throughout the 1980s, Bill designed and managed multiple shifts for source document and computer output on microfilm and data entry service centers throughout the Great Lakes. He managed daily operations, programming of new accounts, and provided daily customer support for hundreds of clients.

During most of the 1990s, Bill gained experience in all aspects of broadcast production including writing, producing, camera techniques, and directing. He was solely responsible for the creation, writing, shooting, and directing of 5–10 local television commercials every week.

He moved from broadcasting to managing capture, retrieval, and editing of surgical procedures for up to eighty (80) cataract surgery operations daily in multiple surgical suites by the world’s foremost cataract surgeon, Dr. James P. Gills, in Tarpon Springs, Florida. Bill also produced award-winning PowerPoint presentations for Dr. Gills used in talks and presentations all over the world, as well as wrote and directed Dr. Gills’ television and radio spots.

Since 2007, Bill has been the director for all project management at Accurance, with direct involvement in sales and advertising, customer service, technical development, and day-to-day operations management for multiple centers around the world.

Bill has written or is writing some dozen screenplays and novels and is an accomplished self-published author himself. He is a widower who counts writing and reading as his two favorite pastimes. He lives in Florida with a teenage daughter; he has two sons in college, both with goals of being authors or screenwriters.
